Wooden Rule – 2002

#2002  12″ Wooden Ruler (Horse)

A “wooden rule” generally refers to a straightedge or measuring tool made of wood. Traditionally, it’s a flat, elongated piece of wood, with precise markings, used for drawing straight lines or measuring distances.

The wooden rule is often made from hardwoods like oak or maple, which provides durability and a smooth surface for precise measurements. It is shaped like a rectangular in cross-section, but with the top surface at the middle section higher on the exposed end. The 2 sides on the top surfaces may have a chamfered edge. This is for ease of drawing or making a mark with the aid of the rule and a pen/pencil. The other side of the rule is flat and it is used to lay onto a flat surface during usage.

Some wooden rules may have a brass or metal edge to aid in precise measurement, and durability. Normally it has a smooth, polished surface to prevent splinters and make it easier to handle. The wood might be varnished or treated to enhance durability and appearance.

Despite their simplicity, wooden rules can be quite functional and are appreciated for their classic craftsmanship and tactile feel. Historically, wooden rules were common tools in carpentry, drafting, and general measurement tasks before the advent of modern materials like plastic and metal.

The #2002 wooden rule is made of wood and it has both metric scale and imperial scale on one side of the rule. There is also an imperial marking on the opposite flat surface, with some angular marks near the centre of the rule as well. The rule is at it thickess in the middle span of the rule. This rule is also varnished to a light orange colour giving it some extra smoothness to the surface.
